All Parts are Welcome
All parts are welcome is a mantra of IFS. I wanted this wall hanging to be a continuation of Heart Opening and to elaborate on how the Self welcomes the different parts. Also I had more of the back ground fabric with the edges that look to me like magic making and fairy wings. I tried stretching this background fabric on muslin instead of rug backing to see what would happen.
The personification of the Self as a compassionate grandmother also came quickly.
The little one in the lower left was happy to leave her underground box and help the other baby parts into the arms of the Self. The baby parts may even belong to my brother and mother. It feels good to have these parts who didn't know what to do be taken care of.
On the right is my explainer part. She's had a big role in my life and I want to honor her.
Below her are two heads that represent the one who listens in the IFS sessions and the one who reports.
The light yellow material is stiff and patterned with imprinted fans. It goes well with the soft curls on an edging fabric that makes the hair of the people and the feathers of the owl. Felt makes most of the faces and voile and embroidered patterns and flowers on het make the baby's shawl and the speaker's drum.
It feels good to welcome all these parts. I still don't know what the owl represents, but I continue to be curious about that.
This wall hanging is finished in 2014.
Again the image of the owl came quickly. But unlike the lower image here from "Heart Opening" this owl is white and flying free.
