Shaman Hole
For me, often these journeys begin in an enchanted landscape. Here this tree with peacock feather flowers that wave in their own special breezes of magical air currents suggested itself.
This piece was finished in 2002.
Some of my shaman lessons with Lynn Andrews were at Joshua Tree, CA. There I found a piece of Joshua tree which looked like a wise man with a beard. He sat arund for a while until I mounted him in an embroidery hoop and hung it on the bare rug backing.
I imagined him hanging in a gateway hole into a shaman journey something like the journeys Lynn Andrews would guide us as we relaxed and went inside ourselves.
While searching how to depict the gateway hole I found some wavy black and white material which reminds me of the woozy feeling of beginning a shamanic journey.
The ground is made of printed cloth from India that's sewn on or woven into the rug backing. The frame is of uncut fringe. All is sewn on rug backing and hung from a rod.
